    About Us

Caren Harrington graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bay Path College with a BA in Liberal Arts with a focus on history, and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Museum Education at the Tufts University in Boston, MA.  Caren is presently Civilian Coordinator for the 10th MA Volunteer Infantry from Florence, MA. As a former Director of the Stone House Museum in Belchertown, MA,  and Interpreter of History at Old Sturbridge Village Museum in Sturbridge, MA, Caren brings an expansive knowledge of early 19th century food preparation, preservation, and cooking skills to her programs. Caren has been a Training Interpreter for the Dance Program at Old Sturbridge Village, a Museum Education Teacher.   She enjoys spinning and weaving when she has free time.

Kitty Lowenthal went from Mount Holyoke College with a BA in Latin American Studies to being a high school Spanish teacher, then to a career in Living History interpretation, at Old Sturbridge Village and National Park sites, with nearly 30 years experience in fireplace cooking and many other arcane historical skills.  At Sturbridge she was co-Lead Interpreter for Foodways, Program Assistant for the Freeman and Bixby households, and Coordinator of the Agriculture program. She carried her love of museum education to the Deerfield Teacher Center, where she presently does in-classroom presentations for children and also workshop and seminar presentations for teachers on a wide range of historical topics. Her passion is teaching, whatever the subject, and she regards cooking as more an art form than drudgery.  She can teach you to cook, give you the history of the food and its preparation, make you laugh, and then entertain with a song or story.  When she is not working as a museum teacher at Deerfield Teacher Center, she can be found knitting and sewing, singing and drumming, and whipping up herbal remedies for man and beast.

Donna Kimball was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts.
After giving up childhood dreams of being an Egyptologist due to  her intense claustrophobia, she ended up earning a Bachelor's degree in History and then worked for close to ten years as a  costumed living history interpretor at Old Sturbridge Village. While working there  she learned to cook and bake over a fire,  weave, bookbind, tinsmith, candle-dip, milk cows, make cheese, churn butter, and otherwise be skilled in various nineteenth century crafts. She's also quite skilled in knitting, crochet, and  cross-stitch. She has an extensive collection of cookbooks, both modern and historical. During her years at Sturbridge, she also completed her Master's degree, and now works as a history teacher. In her limited free time, she enjoys Bollywood movies, reading, knitting, and spending time with family and her cats.
